Hurricane Sidney Charles exclusive to Tudobeats | House Mag
ENGLISH VERSION“I think the most important thing is the attitude and motivation behind an artist. If you only make music to be famous or to get rich you will sooner or later fall into hole and also your followers will notice that.”
.
For a producer who only started releasing music in 2011, Sidney’s achievements are all the more impressive. In the space of just five years, his works have graced bastions of house and techno such as Avotre, 8bit, I Am A House Gangster, Moda Black, Off, VIVa, Kling Klong, SCI+TEC, Suara and Area Remote – each release adding to his clout and helping him to become one of the biggest names in the underground.
Sidney Charles liked Brasil and Brasil liked him. Back to the country, he plays at “5uinto”, – Brasília – “Laguna Music”, at the legendary Vibe Club, in Curitiba and also at “Nos Trilhos” in São Paulo and worldwide known “Tribe Festival” in Rio de Janeiro.
Sidney is well established between house and techno and is happy with its results. According to him it is the way it is because he is happy doing what he likes. Below you can read an exclusive interview for brazilian Tudobeats, published in portuguese by House Mag where he tells a bit more of what he thinks on Brazil, our artists, career and tells why it is so important to get out of comfort zone. I think every track has had its own impact on my career in some way. Hurricane definitely brought me a little step further and helped me to reach more people with my music. So after the success of hurricane I had more people following me and my music. This makes me very happy.

I love making music in my studio and I could spend most of my time there. I feel at home in my studio, its my comfort zone. I can live out my creativity there and I feel safe. But sooner or later adventure calls…Dj’ing gives me the right balance between my studio and day to day life. The great thing about traveling and dj’ing is the insecurity it brings…You don’t know what will happen. You have to leave your comfort zone to experience a new adventure. The balance of this is what makes me love my job a lot.
I’m also happy about my role as an A&R because I am happy to consume music from so many great artists out there, it is exciting to find new talents as well.

From my personal experience it is most important to have fun in what you doing, and that it creates happiness inside you. You need to gain a positive life and attitude from your work.
After that you shouldn’t be having any problems of being creative. Creativity is then what gives you the ability to loose your feeling of time and just being in the moment with your music.
All the discussion about analog and digital or whatsoever is reasonable but in the end the creativity is what makes the difference doesn’t matter how you find the way there.
4. Parnerships are very important in many different ways. Please tell us
more about your colabs and other ways to do things with other
professionals.
It’s amazing to work with different artists because they can inspire you a lot and motivate you to try different ways of creativity. Especially when you make a collab in the studio. Santé and I spent some time in the studio together and I always took some great experiences with me afterwards.
.
TUDOBEATS: We see a lot of things with you and Santé. How did it start and where is it going?
My first ever release was on a label called Kling Klong and the Label Manager asked Santé whether he would be up for doing a remix. This was how I first met Santé, over the internet and we were exchanging music from time to time. After I decided to move to Berlin I met Santé for the first time in person and we had good time talking about music and whatever. During this time he was in the middle of planning Avotre to be born and I was very happy when he asked me to be a part of it.
We started with showcases in Berlin and also some smaller places in Germany. When I think back it’s crazy how much the label developed in this last 4 years. Santé started his label Avotre in 2012 and he asked me form the beginning whether I wanted to be involved and help him out as an A&R.
The platform was more for us to release music and the beginning phase of creating the label. At the time we were working more closely together and also played more frequently on Avotre events. Promoters and the people were also appreciating when we were playing b2b instead of single sets. So we decided to do that from time to time.
I guess Santé and I got a good feeling of the sound we want to bring to the people when we are playing. Our similar tastes makes it easy to adapt to each other and create a good mix. All in all it’s nice to create the atmosphere together and have fun. Also have more time to drink in-between the transitions!
Avotre is now established in the scene and we have some great projects coming up…We are starting a new party-concept and having great releases coming up including Santés new EP which is banger and also my remix for MOBY.
.
Actually I see it from a totally different perspective. For brazil is country where everything is just about to rise in the underground scene. There is already a bit of a Progressive/Psy-Trance scene
present. As well as more commercial styles of House and Techno. So all the followers of those scenes are also likely to come in contact with underground House and Techno. So therefore there is a big potential for the scene in Brazil to grow quickly.
There are already some great artists: Gui boratto, Victor ruiz, Whebba to name a few…

.
I’m very happy that I found my signature sound in-between House and Techno over the least 3 years and this is also where I’m heading further. So sound wise I’m keeping my raw underground sound, this is also what I love to play out the most. But still I’m open for new ways of making music and explore the other sides of House and Techno.
Im in the middle of planning my next party concept together with my management which we are going to start beginning of next year.
As well as this I’m really excited about my forthcoming tours in Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Argentina.
.
TUDOBEATS: What do you expect from your Brazilian tour?
My last experiences in Brazil where absolute great. I’d love the temper and the feeling of rhythm that the crowd has..it gives me back a lot of energy for my sets too.
So my expectations are high and I feel excited to come back!
